Food Sovereignty

Picture

Dr. Melodi Wynne is the Food Sovereignty manager for STN & the Spokane Tribe.  Food sovereignty is typically defined as "the right of peoples to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods". For the tribes, this means, in part, reestablishing the lost flora of their ancestral lands.

Thank you Martha Tulee for making this video for STN and Melodi!

STN & STOI TANF Food Sovereignty Collaboration.

The purpose of the project is to create a healing space demonstrating Spokane Tribal Food Sovereignty through connections among people, plants, elements, and all life above, on, in, and under the soil. Connection means traditional plant foods on people's everyday plates, sharing knowledge of food and medicine plants, and healing centered engagement of anyone and everyone that is interested in learning and teaching.   This is a three year professional service agreement starting in the Spring of 2022.

Help us convert a pole building into a food processing station!
We have an amazing site and a nice big pole building available for our project.  Our pole building is not functional at this time.  Our goal is to have storage areas for all our food & plant medicine.  Also a functional teaching/processing kitchen, where all community members wanting a place to teach cooking can use.  We also want an art station where artists can have a place to hang out and create.  An office for the food sovereignty manager is a must along with another office and a small meeting room
